Why “NEMESIS, BABE”?
When starting my blog, I was listening a lot to the Danish band Veto, especially their song “Nemesis, Babe”, which I loved. So I used the song title as my blog name and, fortunately, I still love the song.
Which camera du you use?
I shoot with a CANON EOS 7D, and usually a 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Which programs do you edit your photos in?
I edit in Abode Lightroom and GiMP.
Who shoots your outfit photos?
My friends, blogger colleagues and my sister. At fashion week, the other street style photographers usually shoot me and let me use their photos in my posts for a link and a credit.
How/why did you start blogging?
I started blogging out of boredom. I had nothing to do for the summer of 2010, so I thought I could make a creative outlet for myself. Later I figured that blogging could help me get closer to my dream of working in fashion, so I started blogging more often, better and more passionately.
Du you want to work with fashion for the rest of your life?
Quite probably. Fashion has always been a part of who I am and I think it’ll stay like that. I’d love to do some freelance styling and modeling jobs, do more street style photography and see if I can turn my blog into something that I could make a living from.
How did you become a street style photographer and when/how did you get onto the fashion scene?
Well, it’s quite simple. I just did it. I decided that it was what I wanted to do, so I booked a plane ticket and a room in Paris(in January 2012) and started hanging out in front of the show venuew with my camera. Since then I’ve been attending most all of the Copenhagen/London/Milan/Paris fashion weeks as a photographer and a showgoer. I got a gig shooting street style for the Danish magazine Cover in February 2013, because I showed them my work, asked if I could shoot for them and they liked my photos and said yes – simple as that! Later on I’ve been working for ASOS and NastyGal as well, after having done some styling features for them and through that connection, getting them to notice my photography work and getting jobs that way.
Will you do a (second hand) guide to Aarhus/London/Aalborg/København/Barcelona/Berlin?
Probably not. I think it’s fun doing guides for cities that I’ll be traveling to, but making guides without having to use them myself is too big a job for me to do. If I do do a guide to a city, you’ll know it and see it on the blog and might be able to download it – like my PARIS-GUIDE HERE. And, about the second hand shopping: you can usually find out a lot through using google and asking people in the city you’re visiting.
Have you got any tips as to how I get into second hand and thrift shopping?
I think it’s just a matter of taking your time to do it a lot and train your eye to spot the good stuff. I don’t really have any other answer than: go out and do it – practice makes perfect!
We see how you dress on the blog and at fashion weeks – is that also how you dress for every day life?
I try to. In my junior year of high school, before I started the blog, I had a profile on www.lookbook.nu and I decided that every day I had to dress in an outfit worthy of putting on Lookbook. Since then i has become normal for me to dress up more than others probably would. But if I feel like it, I can also spend an entire day wearing a jumper and tights – the same way that I could wear one of my fashion week outfits for a regular work day.
Where do you find the courage to stand out so much with your style?
For me, it isn’t really about courage. At least, that’s not what I think about when getting dressed in the morning –I put on the clothes I feel like wearing and that’s it, actually.. I think I’ve just started caring less about what other people think of my outfits – and I believe that when I dress up, I’ve got the upper hand as to how people perceive me, so it’s quite fun to see which retain you get from different people.
I often think about that I should be more interested in more important and world changing things in stead of fashion fashion, which is so superficial. Do you know that feeling?
Great question – because yes, I do! I have too been super conflicted about wanting to spend my life on something as superficial as fashion. Most of my friends do voluntary work, work with handicapped people and with kids and do all kinds of things that seen much more important to the world than what I do.. But they do it, because that’s what they love to do. So why shouldn’t I do what I love and decide that it’s OK that I want to work in fashion, now that I’ve been dreaming of it since I was a kid? And furthermore, fashion isn’t just about clothes and superficiality in my opinion: it’s about art, design, culture and history and it’s about discovering things about the human body, about people, personalities and rhetoric. And if you have got a passion for fashion, and you know how to work with it, fashion is probably what you should be working with.
Which blogs do you read?
Usually I just zap around on whatever blog I might find. There are a few blogs that I read religiously, and half of them are by bloggers I know in real life, too. Love Aesthetics is always a hit, and also Pagik, Style Bubble and ManRepeller. I also follow sweet Sarah at Framboise Fashion, Stine Mo, Yin at Pangcakes,Isabella Thordsen, Sidsel og Lasse and Cecilie at Choisewithnoise.
How tall are you??
I’m exactly 167½cm.
Do you do any kind of exercise to keep your legs and your body so good looking?
I do a lot of yoga and also some back/tummy-classes and some cardio once in a while, but it’s mostly my genes and my metabolism that does the work for my. I don’t think I ever did anything to tone my legs – they’re just the way they’ve always been. But thanks for the compliment!
How many siblings do you have?
One, my sweet sister, Mette, who’s 3,5 years older than me.
How would you describe yourself.?
Passionate about fashion(you don’t say?). Dedicated. Focused. Grammatically observant. Word-lover. Shy. Humorous. Determined. Imaginative. Visual. Color loving. Eager to learn. Sarcastic. Organized. Flexible. Silly.
Where in the world would you like to settle down?
Oh, I don’t know if I’ll ever settle down anywhere. There are so many places in the world I’d love to live – Aarhus, København, Berlin, Amsterdam, on a house boat, in a circus – and the list keeps growing.
How is it to travel so much?
It’s both awesome and confusing. During fashion week season I’m never home more than 1-2 weeks in a row before leaving again – and then you get a bit sick of all that traveling(I do know the safety instructions on the plane by heart, though). But at the same time, I wouldn’t be without it. Just think how lucky I am, getting to travel so much and see so many things and parts of the world.
