something old, something new, something borrowed, something re-used

Hvad synes I?

You might not think that re-used clothes, my favorite category when it comes to clothes, would be a theme to talk about during the Haute Couture fashion week, the days during which the best craftsmanship in fashion is showed to the fashion elite, in Paris. Like I, during the last Couture-season wrote about Maison Martin Margiela’s formidable collection of one of a kind items HERE, I grasp my pen(ehem, well, keyboard) yet again, because I can’t help but not to. If I should name one fashion mason, that produces Haute Couture fashion completely impeccably, I would without a doubt say MMM! This time, the Margiela team gathered materials such as Frank Lloyd Wright interior-fabrics from a private collection in Arizona(the two first dresses), tapestries based on Gaugin paintings(the giant coat in the middle), buttons, chains, keys, crystals and soda-can pulls(the “wigs” and the dress in the middle, far right), embroideries based on designs by the tattoo artist “Sailor Jerry”(the top, top right) and aluminum balloons(the big coat on the bottom). What a collection of amazing materials! Al those re-purposed materials and Frankenstein like mix of things from near and far, old and new, excite me to an extend I can’t even express – I’m head over heels for clothes, that have both a history and such a formidable artistic quality. And, oh yeah, it’s so incredibly interesting to look at, no matter if you know the story or not.. even though it does elevate the experience of the clothes even more. I know I can’t wait ’till the showing of MMM’s next couture collection! How do you like thee pieces?
